DESCRIPTION
A handsome late Georgian mahogany hanging corner cupboard dating from the early nineteenth century. Constructed in solid mahogany rather than veneered timber, it combines restrained Georgian proportions with practical storage and a rich, well-developed patina.
The moulded cornice sits above a single arched fielded-panel door enclosing a shelved interior retaining traces of its original baize lining. Beneath is a useful single drawer, making the cupboard equally suitable for use in a kitchen, dining room, hallway or study.
Unlike many comparable examples, this cupboard is constructed from solid mahogany throughout, reflecting the quality of its manufacture. It retains working locks to both the cupboard door and drawer, each with its key, and displays the warm colour and mellow surface expected of well-preserved Georgian furniture.
A practical and decorative example of an increasingly sought-after form of early English furniture.

CONDITION
There are the expected marks, scratches and surface wear commensurate with age and use. A small section of moulding to the right-hand return of the cornice has been professionally replaced and blended sympathetically into the surrounding timber. The cupboard door lock is a historic replacement. Both the cupboard and drawer retain working locks with keys. Overall, the cupboard is solid, structurally sound and presented in very good antique condition.
As with all antique and vintage furniture, this piece has been used and enjoyed over many years and should be expected to show signs of age and use. We aim to describe any significant faults, repairs or alterations as accurately and honestly as possible. The photographs form an important part of the description and should be viewed alongside the written condition report.
