DESCRIPTIONAn elegant Victorian rosewood writing table by the renowned London cabinet makers Collinson & Lock, dating from the late nineteenth century. The table is finely constructed in richly figured rosewood with delicate brass stringing throughout, reflecting the refined design associated with the firm''s work during the Aesthetic Movement.The rectangular top is inset with a gilt-tooled leather writing surface above three frieze drawers fitted with brass swan-neck handles. Above the writing surface is a raised superstructure supported on spiral-fluted uprights with a pierced brass gallery, providing useful display space whilst maintaining the desk''s light and elegant proportions.The table stands on slender tapering fluted legs united by shaped X-frame stretchers, giving the design both strength and visual balance.
