DESCRIPTIONA decorative 19th-century Chinese export black lacquer domed chest (or trunk), finely decorated in gilt and polychrome with landscape scenes, flowering plants and wildlife.The domed lid is decorated with a continuous landscape within a gilt border above a similarly decorated front depicting figures in a mountainous landscape. The sides are further enriched with flowering branches and a rabbit amongst foliage. The trunk retains its engraved brass lock plate, corner mounts and side carrying handles, all of which contribute to its distinctive appearance.Originally intended as a household storage or travelling trunk, it now makes an attractive blanket chest, coffee table or decorative storage chest.
