Early 18th Century Oak And Elm Refectory Table Seating Ten C. 1720
£2,800 $3,747 €3,279
A really beautiful George I period oak and elm refectory table with three original long planks to the top of an excellent warm colour and with a deep and natural patinaion with cleated ends and some old nicks, worm and bruises to the edges of the boards – the worm long since treated dead and not affecting strength or structure.
.
The top set on a wide apron uniting substantial oak legs with chamfered corners.
This table originally had a box stretcher but this has been adapted to create a central stretcher – many years ago and appears to be a 19th century alteration. It is very common to see the move to a central stretcher on these very old tables because box stretchers make it difficult to position chairs and to push them under when not in use.
.
The table is extremely heavy. The top lifts off for transport.
.
The table seats ten easily and is shown here with a set of eight Arts and Crafts oak and walnut chairs attributed to the Glasgow School, Wylie and Lockhead, ...and which are available separately.
.
This is a stunning large and early English refectory table
.
.
Dimensions are:
.
9ft / 108 inches long, 28.75 inches wide and 29.5 inches high. From floor to lowest point of apron is 25 inches.
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
