Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Crafted between 1830 and 1837 during the reign of King William IV, these boxes feature sterling silver construction lined with a gold wash, known as silver gilt, to protect the metal from reaction with tobacco.

Silversmiths utilised hallmarked sterling silver, often finishing the exterior with reeded or engine-turned patterns and hand-chased floral borders. The interiors were gilded using mercury gilding techniques, and hinges were tightly fitted to keep contents dry.

Authentic pieces feature a set of official assay marks including the lion passant for sterling silver, the sovereign duty mark depicting the profile of William IV, a town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, a date letter, and the makers initials.

Small antique silver containers work well as decorative accents displayed flat on an office desk, arranged on a stack of books on a coffee table, or placed alongside fine desk accessories.

Silver gilt surfaces require gentle handling; avoid abrasive polishes that can wear away the thin layer of gold. Wipe clean with a dry microfibre cloth and store in a low-humidity environment.
