Lee Hawkins Antiques & Interiors has dated this piece to the 19th Century.

The rounded rectangular top is veneered in beautifully selected burr walnut, displaying spectacular natural figuring enhanced by finely executed satinwood and marquetry inlaid borders surrounding a decorative central cartouche. The exceptional colour, depth and patina achieved over more than 140 years give the table a warmth that cannot be replicated in modern furniture.

The ingenious fold-over top opens smoothly to reveal the original green baize playing surface, transforming the piece from an elegant console or occasional table into a generous games table ideal for cards, chess, backgammon or entertaining guests.

Raised on a striking turned central pedestal with four finely turned supports, scrolling legs and original brass castors, the table offers both excellent stability and graceful Victorian proportions. Delicate inlaid decoration to the legs further demonstrates the quality of craftsmanship throughout.

Beautifully suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors, this versatile table works equally well in a drawing room, library, study or reception room, where it serves as both an impressive decorative centrepiece and a highly functional occasional table.
