A French gilt bronze and ivory bust of a young lady, signed A. Gory
A decorative sculptural bust depicting a young lady with her head gently inclined to one side, her finely carved ivory face displaying a soft and contemplative expression. She wears an elegant headdress with a central rosette ornament and beaded band, the hair gathered beneath and flowing to the back of the head.
The shoulders and bodice are cast in richly gilt bronze, modelled as a high-necked costume with laced detail to the front and draped folds falling across the shoulders. The warm gilded surface contrasts strikingly with the smooth ivory head and neck, creating the refined material combination typical of decorative sculpture of the period.
The bust is raised on a shaped pedestal base in dark green marble which provides a strong visual contrast to the gilding above.
Signed A. Gory, Paris to the reverse of the bronze drapery.
