James Stinton (1870 - 1962) a Framed Hand Painted Royal Worcester Porcelain Plaque

1900 - 1920
Description

A very attractive hand painted porcelain plaque of oval form by the well known Royal Worcester artist James Stinton, depicting a pair of pheasants standing amongst grasses within a softly painted landscape, with trees and misty ground beyond. The birds are rendered in rich naturalistic colours with finely detailed plumage, the surrounding foliage and ground painted in warm autumnal tones creating a pleasing sense of depth and atmosphere.

Signed J. Stinton to the lower edge of the plaque and mounted within an oval gilt slip, the whole presented in a decorative moulded gilt frame with scrolling ornament to the corners and centre.

The reverse bearing the Royal Worcester factory mark.

A charming example of Stinton’s much admired game bird studies, beautifully painted and well presented for display.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Royal Worcester began producing highly detailed painted porcelain plaques in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, employing specialist artists to hand-paint natural landscapes, gamebirds, and fruit studies onto ceramic slabs before final glazing and firing.

These items typically consist of a fine bone china or porcelain slab decorated with mineral-based overglaze enamels, housed within a moulded gesso and gilded wooden frame.

Authentic pieces feature the artist signature, typically J. Stinton, alongside official factory backmarks or date codes impressed or printed on the reverse of the porcelain tile.

Plaques of this scale function well positioned on a narrow wall space, integrated into a gallery wall, or placed on an easel resting on a sideboard.

Keep the piece away from damp environments to protect the gilt wood frame, and clean the porcelain surface gently using a dry soft microfibre cloth without harsh chemicals.
