Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian novelty silver boxes, produced between 1901 and 1910, are small decorative containers shaped like everyday objects, miniature furniture, or traditional caskets. They frequently feature elaborate relief decoration, including classical scrolls, foliage, and figurative scenes influenced by earlier Rococo Revivals.

These boxes were primarily crafted from solid sterling silver, marked with official British hallmarks indicating the silver standard, assay office, year of manufacture, and maker. The interiors often contain velvet, silk, or leather linings to protect delicate jewellery.

Authentic pieces carry a complete set of British hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark, a date letter corresponding to the 19011910 era, and a makers mark. Cast or repousse decorative details, hand-fitted hinges, and signs of period wear around friction points further indicate age.

A miniature silver casket functions well as an accent piece on a bedside table, dressing table, or vanity tray. Placing it alongside leather-bound books or a marble surface highlights its reflective finish and detailed relief work.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and polish periodically using a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove oxidisation. Avoid submerging items with fabric linings in liquid silver dips or using abrasive cleaners that can damage fine surface embossing.
