The bookcase is decorated with gilt highlights and has a later red silk-lined back, providing an attractive backdrop for books or decorative objects.
The interior is fitted with three adjustable shelves, each supported on wooden pegs, allowing the layout to be altered as required. The restrained Gothic detailing and architectural form are characteristic of Street's furniture designs and reflect the influence of the Gothic Revival movement during the late nineteenth century.
A well-proportioned and practical bookcase, equally suited to displaying books, ceramics or other decorative objects.

CONDITION
The bookcase is in good, clean condition and presents well overall. There are minor marks, knocks and scratches consistent with its age and use, together with light wear to the ebonised and gilt finishes, all in keeping with normal use over many years. The red silk backing is a later addition and remains in good decorative order. The three shelves are adjustable and are supported by their original peg supports.
