We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The French animalier movement emerged in the nineteenth century, characterised by artists specialising in realistic sculptures of animals. Master sculptors such as Pierre-Jules Mene produced highly detailed equestrian and wildlife bronzes that gained popularity across Europe.

These sculptures were typically cast using lost-wax or sand casting methods. Molten bronze was poured into detailed moulds, followed by hand-chasing to refine surface textures and the application of chemical patinas to achieve specific colour variations.

Authentic pieces feature crisp casting details, evidence of hand-finishing, foundry marks, and artist signatures cast directly into the metal base. Weight, proper historical patination, and clear anatomical proportions also indicate genuine period manufacture.

Large equestrian bronzes serve as focal points when positioned on a mahogany sideboard, a large hallway console table, or within a wood-panelled study. They pair effectively with traditional leather upholstery, muted colour palettes, and tailored architectural features.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth. Periodically apply a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from oxidation, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or excess moisture.
