Mark Seabrook Antiques has dated this Fruitwood Goosewing Knitting Sheath to the 19th Century.
....it is made of fruitwood and decorated with a floral and punchwork decoration.....(Knitting Sheaths were used to hold the "third" needle which is used in some forms of knitting and it is placed into the end of the sheath, which is then held under the arm)...very good colour & condition.
English - Cumbrian. C1840-60.
