Lighters carrying the "Cartier Licence" marking are encountered far less frequently than later standard Dunhill production and are highly sought after by collectors.
Particularly interesting is this uncommon black lacquered version. Most surviving examples are silver plated with engine-turned decoration, whereas lacquered examples appear very rarely on the market. An additional attractive feature is the applied white metal oval plaque engraved with an elegant intertwined monogram, almost certainly representing the original owner's initials.

Inside the mechanism are the markings "PAT." and "PREFOR", referring to the Prefor patent system used on early Dunhill petrol lighters produced under Cartier licence.

Condition is excellent overall. There is only minor wear and small losses to the black lacquer around the edges consistent with age and careful use (please study the photographs). The mechanism appears complete.
The lighter has not been used for many years. When it was last in regular use it was in working order and produced a good strong flame. It is therefore offered as a collectible antique lighter without any guarantee of current operation.
