Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Derby porcelain from the early nineteenth century is recognised for its soft-paste china body, intricate hand-painted floral studies, and elaborate gilding. During the Regency period, pieces frequently incorporated botanical illustrations set against crisp white grounds with patterned gilt borders.

These dishes were manufactured using bone china or soft-paste porcelain clay bodies, fired at high temperatures before receiving glaze. Decoration involved hand-painted enamel colours followed by mercury gilding, requiring multiple kiln firings to set the pigments and precious metal detailing.

Authentic pieces generally display factory marks painted or impressed on the underside, translucency when held to light, and slight irregularities inherent to hand-painted decoration. Wear patterns on the base rim and age-appropriate rubbing to the gilding also indicate authenticity.

Small antique dishes can be styled flat on coffee tables or console surfaces to hold keys and trinkets, mounted on plate stands inside glazed cabinets, or hung in wall groupings to add colour and historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Antique porcelain decorated with overglaze enamels and gilding should be wiped gently with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Avoid abrasive detergents, soaking in water, or dishwashers, as moisture and chemicals can degrade the gilding and delicate painted surfaces.
