Dating to the 1770s–1780s, both the painting and its magnificent frame are entirely original to the period. The composition beautifully captures the warmth, tenderness, and harmonious balance that made Raphael's original one of the most admired devotional images of the Italian Renaissance.
The painting is housed within an exceptional 18th-century Florentine carved giltwood frame of remarkable craftsmanship. Profusely hand-carved with elegant scrolling acanthus foliage, gadrooning, and richly decorative ornamentation, it is among the finest Italian period frames we have encountered. The reverse even retains its original hand-forged iron wall hanging hook, a wonderful testament to its untouched authenticity.
Displaying an outstanding level of quality, craftsmanship, and preservation, this is a distinguished example of 18th-century Italian devotional art. Combining a beautifully executed period interpretation of one of Raphael's greatest masterpieces with an exceptional original Florentine frame, it is a highly decorative and historically significant work, worthy of the finest private collection or period interior.
