Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These small porcelain or ceramic containers were traditionally crafted in France during the 19th century to hold small personal items such as jewellery, pins, or pills. Often decorated with hand-painted or transfer-printed scenes, they reflected popular aesthetic trends including romantic landscapes and botanical motifs.

They were predominantly crafted from fine porcelain or earthenware and fitted with metal or brass rim mounts and hinges. Surface decoration was applied using hand-painting techniques or transfer-printing methods prior to glazing.

Authentic period pieces generally feature hand-fitted metal mounts around the ceramic edges, often displaying natural patina or oxidisation on the metalwork. Look for period-appropriate transfer designs or hand-painted details alongside potential maker marks on the underside.

Place the piece on a bedside table, dressing table, or vanity tray alongside small glass bottles to create a curated display. It can also function as a decorative accent atop a stack of books on a shelf or console.

Dust the ceramic exterior gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could affect the glaze or transfer details. Wipe metal mounts lightly with a soft cloth, taking care not to introduce moisture to the hinge mechanisms.
