Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French clock garniture is a decorative set traditionally featuring a central mantel clock flanked by a pair of matching ornamental pieces, such as urns, vases, or candelabra. Originating in the 17th century and reaching peak popularity during the 19th century, these sets were designed as focal points for fireplace mantels and sideboards.

These timepieces typically feature gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, champleve or cloisonne enamel ornamentation, bevelled glass panels, and enamelled porcelain dials. The mechanical clock movements often utilise brass plates with steel pinions alongside mercury-compensated or gridiron pendulums.

Authentic examples often feature maker stamps or serial numbers stamped onto the rear movement plate, finely cast details on the gilt bronze mounts, and thick bevelled glass. The champleve enamel displays cell divisions cast or carved directly into the metal base rather than applied filigree wires.

Position the full three-piece set symmetrically along a marble mantelpiece, grand sideboard, or entryway console table. Pairing gilt bronze and colourful enamel with minimalist modern backdrops or dark academia colour palettes creates an intentional visual contrast.

Clean the metal and enamel surfaces gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or abrasive polishes that can strip original gilding. Mechanical clock movements require professional servicing by a qualified horologist every five to seven years to ensure operational integrity.
