Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bakhtiar rugs originate from the Zagros Mountains region in Persia, produced by settled villagers and nomadic Bakhtiari tribes. Renowned since the 19th century, these textiles often showcase central medallion designs or compartment garden layouts influenced by regional floral flora.

Authentic Bakhtiar carpets feature hand-knotted wool pile tied onto a sturdy cotton warp and weft foundation. Woven using natural plant and mineral dyes, the high-grade local wool contributes to structural durability and saturated colouration.

Authenticity is indicated by slight variations in weave and dye (abrash), a soft flexible handle, and detailed knotting visible on the underside. Antique pieces from the late 19th century display natural vegetable dyes that age into soft, muted tones alongside characteristic floral or panel motifs.

A Persian rug serves as a foundational element to anchor seating areas, dining sets, or entryway spaces. Designers place them over natural timber floorboards or neutral carpets to introduce visual texture, historic character, and grounded colour contrast.

Maintain wool carpets by vacuuming regularly using suction only without a rotating beater bar. Address spills immediately by blotting with a clean dry cloth, rotate the rug annually to balance sun exposure and foot traffic, and arrange professional cleaning by a specialist conservator.
