We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

William IV mirrors, produced between 1830 and 1837, bridge the design transition between late Regency classical forms and early Victorian embellishments. They feature architectural proportions, gilded surfaces, and detailed carved motifs designed specifically to sit above a fireplace hearth.

These frames were typically crafted from softwood or pine, coated in layers of gesso and bole, then carved or detailed with composition molding. Gold leaf was applied using water or oil gilding over thick glass plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved decorative elements such as eagle crestings, acanthus leaves, or turned columns, alongside natural age signs like light foxing to the glass plate and visible underlying bole beneath worn gilding.

Mount the mirror above a living room fireplace mantelpiece, or position it above a hallway console table to reflect natural light and create a dramatic focal point within traditional or contemporary schemes.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft microfibre duster or artist brush. Avoid liquid cleaners, water, or commercial polishes, as moisture can dissolve historic water gilding and ruin the gesso composition.
