An oil on canvas landscape scene depicting a shepherd tending his flock of sheep beneath flowering trees by renowned early twentieth century landscape painter, Sir Herbert Edwin Pelham Hughes - Stanton RA (British, 1870 - 1937).
Signed lower left and dated 1921
Hughes-Stanton exhibited his paintings regularly at the Royal Academy, the Grosvenor Gallery the Royal Institute of Oil Paintings and at the Fine Art Society.
He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1913 and a full Royal Academician in 1920, the year before this painting was painted. He served as President of the Royal Watercolour Society from 1920 - 1936.
His works have been held in prestigious collections around the globe including, the Tate, London; the Imperial War Museum, London; the Musée Royal, Florence; the Musée Modern, Rome; the Barcelona Museum; the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; the Welsh National Galley and in several provincial galleries throughout the UK.
