Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, French folding screens (paravents) evolved from functional wind draught shields into elaborate decorative centrepieces. By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, makers frequently referenced Rococo aesthetics, combining carved timber framework with romantic pastoral panels inspired by artists like Antoine Watteau.

These screens typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as walnut, oak, or gilded beech, carved with intricate scrolls and crestings. The main panels were constructed from canvas, wood, or leather and decorated with oil paint, lacquer, or fine silk textiles.

Authentic turn-of-the-century pieces display genuine hand-carved joinery details, natural patination on the timber, and hand-painted artistry rather than modern printed graphics. Original brass bi-directional hinges and minor age-related crazing to the paint layer also indicate period authenticity.

A painted screen works exceptionally well placed flat against a neutral wall as oversized art or positioned angled in a corner to soften room acoustics and create visual depth. It can also be utilised flexibly to section off a reading nook or home office area.

Keep the screen away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from warping and the paint from fading. Dust the carved frame and panels gently with a soft microfibre duster, and nourish the exposed wooden elements periodically with a high-grade beeswax polish.
