Set of 6 Scottish Arts & Crafts Dining Chairs C.1910

We have a super quality set of six walnut Arts & Crafts style dining chairs by Scottish maker Joseph Johnstone of Lochwinnoch C.1910. The design number is stamped to the underneath of all the chairs.

The chairs by Joseph Johnstone have good solid well coloured walnut frames with tall backrests featuring modest moulded roundels to the top rail over attractively shaped slats and with square pommel tops to the rear stiles. The chairs are raised on square tapering front legs with a lightly flared foot, joined with wide H stretchers.

Condition is good with of course sensible day to day use however very solid and of pleasing old walnut tone. The seats are usable if you wish with a rust coloured short cut velvet. Our professional upholsterer could fully reupholster the seats including new webbing for £55 per chair plus VAT. You would require 2-2.5 metres of fabric for all 6 which we are happy to assist in sourcing, maybe a Morris fabric would look perfect? The choice of fabrics are endless and we are able to offer a full advice and swatch service.

Billy Hunt and Co is located on a large Victorian farm just a short country drive from the Rangemore village, a designated conservation area, which was built by Michael Thomas Bass in the 1850s to house the Bass Rangemore Estate workers consisting mainly of Victorian redbrick cottages and the occasional barn.

Our home is a classic Victorian designed and well equipped late 19th century 2 story red brick built barn of some 4000 sq feet nestled in classic English countryside, which enjoyed a careful full renovation in 2000. The estate still benefits being managed in the traditional manner with an Estate Manger, estate carpenter, gardeners etc. A rather delightful place to have as our work space.

Martina, there is no Billy at Billy hunt, has led the team since 2103 and is an interior designer qualified from The Inchbald School of Design London whose previous working life included such clients as Vertu, Aston Martin and Johnnie Walker to name a few.
