Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carved bread boards gained popularity in mid-nineteenth century Britain as dedicated table items for slicing and presenting loaves. Craftsmen carved individual boards from close-grained timber, frequently featuring raised lettering and wheat motifs around the rim.

Traditional bread boards were made from non-porous hardwoods such as sycamore, beech, lime, and maple. Sycamore was especially favoured in Britain because it does not impart taste or scent to the food placed upon it.

Authentic boards display irregular knife cut marks across the centre from genuine historical usage rather than artificial distressing. Look for hand-carved lettering with minor variations, subtle shrinkage along the grain, and smooth, natural patina around the rim where hands held the piece.

Display the board upright against a kitchen splashback or arranged in layered groups on open shelving. It can also function as a central riser on a kitchen island to hold oil bottles, salt cellars, or small culinary pots.

Wipe the wooden board with a damp cloth and dry it immediately; never submerge it in water or place it in a dishwasher. Periodically condition the dry timber with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to prevent cracking and preserve the natural grain.
