Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developing in the late 18th and 19th centuries, Italian Neoclassical furniture drew inspiration from classical Greco-Roman antiquity, featuring symmetrical proportions, straight fluted legs, and ornamental details such as oval backrests, carved rosettes, and water-gilded accents.

These seating pieces were typically crafted from carved hardwoods such as beech or pine, covered in a gesso preparatory layer, painted, and detailed with gold leaf application (parcel gilding) alongside fine silk or velvet upholstery.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved decorative motifs, traditional pegged timber joinery, and natural age-related wear to the painted surface that reveals the underlying red or yellow bole beneath the gilding.

Positioning a pair of these armchairs symmetrically beside a minimalist console table or flanking a focal point creates visual balance and introduces architectural texture to contemporary spaces.

Dust surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or light brush, avoiding liquid cleaners that could damage the water gilding or gesso layer, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight.
