19th Century Mahogany Quartetto Nest of Four Coffee Tables

19th century
Description

A Very Good Quality Late 19th Century Mahogany Quartetto Nest Of Four Coffee Tables, Having Well Figured Rectangular Tops With Satinwood Banded Decoration And Cockbeaded Mouldings, Raised On Elegant Turned Upright Supports, United By Cross Stretchers And Sabre Shaped Feet.

Dating to the late 19th century, but in the Georgian style as is common for this period these tables are very good quality and extremely useful indeed.

The top of each table is constructed from well figured, rich mahogany timber with elegant cross banded decoration. The combination of these features creates a good contrast and an elegant look in combination with the cockbeaded panelling.

These tables are in good, solid, functional condition, with very little restoration or existing damage to speak of. It is worth noting that we have had many similar nests of this period and they are regularly found with rudimentary repairs to smashed legs, or with tops that have faded to a totally different colour with large splits down the middle of them. Therefore its clear that this particular nest has been well loved, cherished and used throughout its life.

As with all items which we offer for sale they have been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled antique furniture restorers who have tightened the joints, cleaned and naturally waxed them to ensure they are presented in retail condition ready to be placed straight into use.

Perfect for a whole variety of spaces around the home they will add a touch of elegance, class and function to absolutely any room around the home.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First introduced in the late 18th century, quartetto tables are a set of four graduated nesting tables designed to store neatly beneath one another to save space.

These sets were typically crafted using dense mahogany, featuring slender turned spindle supports, curved stretcher rails, and fitted grooves along the underside of the table tops to allow smooth sliding.

Look for hand-cut joinery, original wood patination, subtle variations in table dimensions, and thin turned leg construction supported by sledge feet.

Place the stacked set as a compact side table beside a sofa, or separate the individual tables across a living room when entertaining to provide flexible surfaces.

Apply a light coat of high-quality beeswax polish along the grain annually, clean spills immediately with a soft cloth, and position the tables away from direct heat sources.
