Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian astragal glazed bookcases feature wooden glazing bars set in geometric or lattice patterns over glass door panels. Popular throughout the 19th century, these cabinets protected books and porcelain from dust while displaying them within decorative timber frameworks.

Primary woods included solid mahogany, oak, or walnut, often combined with pine or deal for secondary internal structures such as backboards and shelf bases. Construction techniques relied on hand-cut dovetail joinery, brass hinges, and cylinder glass panes secured with putty.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn timber marks on back panels, slight irregularities in hand-cut glazing bars, and subtle imperfections in original glass panes. Original brass locks, period-correct hinges, and natural age-related wear around the plinth base also indicate authenticity.

A rich mahogany cabinet provides a grounding dark wood tone against modern neutral backdrops. In modern living spaces or dining rooms, it can be styled with contemporary ceramics, art books, or glassware to balance historical timber tones with contemporary design elements.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice annually to preserve the finish. Avoid silicone spray polishes, direct sunlight, and placement near central heating radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
