Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver letter openers, historically developed alongside paper knives in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, were designed to unseal correspondence and separate untrimmed pages of printed books. During the Victorian period, decorative terminals featuring animal figures became popular stationery accessories among the British upper classes.

High-end desk accessories were predominantly cast or forged from sterling silver, often incorporating stamped hallmarks to denote silver purity, maker, and origin. Blades were ground smooth, while handles featured cast, chased, or engraved decorative motifs.

Authentic British silver items display official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling quality, a makers mark, a town mark, and a date letter. Inspecting these stamped impressions under magnification confirms the age, metal standard, and origin of the piece.

A silver desk accessory can be styled atop a leather blotter on an office desk, displayed inside an open presentation tray, or positioned alongside books on a study shelf. Metal accents complement dark wood furniture, modern glass surfaces, and tailored stationery setups.

Dust sterling silver regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and apply specialist silver polish sparingly to remove oxidisation. Avoid abrasive cleaners, dipping solutions, or harsh chemicals that could erase intentional surface patination or damage delicate cast details.
