Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard and Sons was a premier English cabinetmaking and upholstery firm established in London during the 19th century. Renowned for constructing deep-seated upholstered furniture, the company held multiple royal warrants and supplied major country houses throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

These sofas were constructed using beech or oak internal frames, steel coil springs, natural hair filling, and down-filled cushions. The exposed legs were typically crafted from turned or square-tapered mahogany and fitted with brass castors.

Authentic pieces frequently feature maker stamps on the inside of the rear legs or on the brass castors, such as Howard & Sons Ltd London. Additionally, original under-upholstery often includes printed ticking fabric bearing the firms name and address.

Position the sofa as a central seating element paired with contemporary side tables, minimalist lighting, or neutral paint palettes to highlight its historical profile. Reupholstering in modern woven fabrics allows the traditional shape to blend into current decorative schemes.

Regularly plump and rotate down-filled cushions to maintain their loft and shape over time. Clean fabric surfaces using low-suction vacuuming with a soft brush attachment, and polish wooden legs with natural beeswax while keeping brass castors clean.
