Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this Paris Porcelain Perfume Bottle to the 1850s.
Jacob Petit is regarded as one of the most inventive French porcelain manufacturers of the nineteenth century. His Chinoiserie wares are distinguished by their theatrical architectural forms, brilliant colours and elaborate gilding, all of which are beautifully represented here.
The perfume bottle is constructed in two interlocking sections. The lower portion forms the perfume reservoir, while the upper pagoda acts as the original stopper. The faceted body is decorated in the factory's characteristic apple-green ground with hand-applied gilding, shaped floral reserves and richly gilded pagoda roofs. The underside retains the original underglaze cobalt-blue J.P. mark together with faint incised workman's marks.
Comparable pagoda perfume bottles are preserved in museum collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, although the published example there no longer retains its original stopper. Surviving complete examples therefore remain significantly scarcer and are highly sought after by collectors of Jacob Petit porcelain.

Condition:
Minor wear to the gilding, mainly to the upper part. Slight fading to the green enamel on the top section of the cover. Minute chip to the lower edge of the cover. Hairline cracks to the lower tier of the cover, visible under UV light. The main body remains in excellent antique condition, with the decoration exceptionally well preserved. Examined under UV light, the main body shows no evidence of restoration, repairs, chips or cracks.
