Pair of Georgian Brass Tall Candlesticks with Side Ejectors – 43cm Antique Ecclesiastical Brass Candlesticks – Original Georgian Period

19th century
Description

Pair of Georgian Brass Tall Candlesticks with Side Ejectors – 43cm Antique Ecclesiastical Brass Candlesticks – Original Georgian Period

Pair of Fine Georgian Brass Tall Candlesticks with Side Ejectors

An exceptional pair of authentic Georgian brass tall candlesticks featuring the desirable original side ejector mechanism. Standing an impressive 43cm (17 inches) high, these elegant antique brass candlesticks display superb proportions, a rich deep patinated colour, and excellent original definition, making them a highly decorative and practical addition to any period interior or antique collection.

These substantial Georgian candlesticks were possibly made for ecclesiastical or church use, although equally suited to a country house, Georgian, Regency, or traditional interior. The original telescopic side ejectors operate smoothly, allowing spent candles to be removed with ease while remaining securely in position when raised.

Unlike many examples that have been heavily polished over the years, this pair retains an attractive untouched patina with crisp detailing throughout. Minor wear to the moulded base decoration is entirely consistent with careful polishing and over 200 years of age, adding to their authenticity rather than detracting from their appearance.

A superb investment-quality pair of Georgian antique brass candlesticks that combines elegant craftsmanship, originality, and excellent condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian side ejector candlesticks are metal candle holders crafted during the 18th and early 19th centuries featuring an internal rod mechanism with a side knob. This mechanism allows the user to push the candle stump upwards as it burns down, maximizing fuel usage and making wax removal easier.

During the Georgian period, brass candlesticks were typically cast in separate sections using sand moulds and subsequently joined via threaded screws or soldering. Stems were hand-lathe turned to achieve precise geometric profiling, while internal push-up mechanisms were hand-fitted into slot grooves.

Authentic period examples often display seam lines from casting moulds, hand-cut screw threads inside the base, and evidence of hand-lathe turning marks. The brass alloy from this era typically has a distinct weight and warm colour, often accompanied by wear patterns along the ejector slot mechanism.

Tall brass candlesticks can be arranged symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece or positioned as a central element on a dining table or sideboard. Their simple geometric profiles bridge traditional and contemporary decor schemes when paired with neutral styling elements.

Candlesticks should be cleaned using warm water to melt away wax residue without scraping the metal surface. Gentle brass cleaners or microcrystalline wax can be applied using a soft cloth to protect the surface from oxidisation while preserving natural historical patina.
