Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the Black Forest region of southwestern Germany during the eighteenth century, these timepieces became famous for their intricate hand-carved wooden casings and mechanical movements, frequently depicting wildlife, foliage, and rustic forest scenes.

Traditional Black Forest clocks were crafted using native European hardwoods such as linden wood, walnut, and oak, paired with mechanical movements constructed from brass and iron clockwork.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved details with visible chiselling marks, natural wood grain variation, hand-applied stains, and traditional weight-driven or spring-driven mechanical movements rather than modern cast resin mouldings or quartz mechanisms.

Place the clock as a focal decorative object on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or library bookshelf, allowing the rich carved woodwork to contrast against neutral wall tones and contemporary furniture.

Position the clock away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement or cracking, dust the detailed relief carvings regularly with a soft dry brush, and have the mechanical movement lubricated and serviced periodically by a qualified horologist.
