A charming Post-Impressionist depiction of the bustling fairground at La Fęte des Loges in northern France, painted in 1929 by the French artist Fernand Laval (1886–1966). Richly executed with a heavy impasto technique, the composition captures the lively atmosphere and vibrant character of this celebrated annual fair. The painting is signed and bears an inscription on the reverse.
 
Laval moved to Paris in 1912, where he became a close associate of Maurice Utrillo at the legendary Lapin Agile cabaret in Montmartre. Together they wandered the streets of Paris, painting the city''s distinctive architecture and neighbourhoods. Laval exhibited at the Salon d''Automne from 1920, establishing his place among the artists of the Paris School.
