Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Chesterfield sofa is characterised by deep buttoned tufting, arms and back of equal height, rolled armrests, and brass nailhead trimming. Originating in England during the eighteenth century, the style became prominent in Victorian residential and commercial interiors.

Nineteenth-century Chesterfield sofas were constructed using solid hardwood frames, typically oak or beech, fitted with hand-tied steel coil springs and natural fillings such as horsehair and jute webbing. Upholstery was predominantly full-grain hide leather secured with individual brass studs.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut leather with natural colour variations and age-related surface patina rather than uniform modern finishes. Construction indicators include hand-tacked upholstery nails, hand-stitched seams, and solid wood turned legs integrated into or fastened to the internal timber frame.

A leather Chesterfield acts as a anchor piece when placed alongside contemporary minimalist furniture, concrete finishes, or mid-century timber accents. Pairing dark leather upholstery with neutral walls and modern lighting balances the visual weight of the historic design.

Antique leather requires regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and gentle conditioning using specialist leather balms to prevent drying and cracking. Position the sofa away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent colour fading and structural deterioration of the hide.
