An Early 20th Century Royal Worcester Table Lamp

1900 - 1920
Description

An early 20th century table lamp made by Royal Worcester, the raised bulbholder over a wide copper plate covering a loaded porcelain urn vase with parian finish in a dusty peach colour under an everted gilt rim and hand decorated with sprays of leaves and ferns all with gilt highlights, over a capstan support on a spreading base with a broad gilt band, on a turned wooden socle. English, signed to the underside but concealed by the socle, Royal Worcester, circa 1910, rewired.

Condition: Overall very good, the lamp is in very good condition and appears to have been made for this purpose (ie it is not a conversion), it has been rewired using a new safety bulbholder, braided flex and a new plug fitted with a 3amp fuse.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Lighting from this period typically features porcelain bodies produced by the Royal Worcester factory, decorated with hand-painted botanical or naturalistic subjects, soft satin glazes, and classic urn or vase silhouettes adapted for electrical lighting.

These lamps consist of a glazed porcelain main body combined with metal hardware, such as brass light sockets and collar rings, often mounted onto turned hardwood or gilt bases for stability.

Authenticity is verified by checking the underside of the ceramic base for stamped or printed Royal Worcester factory marks, including date codes, model numbers, and painter marks, along with period-appropriate metal mountings.

A porcelain urn table lamp functions effectively on a wooden sideboard, console table, or desk, adding historical texture when contrasted with contemporary soft furnishings and muted wall tones.

The ceramic body should be dusted gently with a soft dry cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners or moisture near delicate painted motifs and electrical components. Brass elements can be wiped clean to prevent tarnishing.
