Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Line engraving is an intaglio printmaking technique where an image is incised onto a copper plate using a hardened steel tool called a burin. The plate is inked, wiped, and printed onto rag paper under heavy pressure, producing sharp lines and subtle tonal variations typical of 18th-century publishing.

Antique engravings were produced using copper plates, oil-based carbon ink, and handmade cotton or linen rag paper. Framed period prints often feature glass glazing, paper mounts, and carved wooden frames.

Authentic prints feature a distinct plate markan indented line left by the edge of the copper plate during pressing. Furthermore, period handmade paper displays visible chain lines when held to the light, along with natural variations in texture and edge wear.

A pair of framed portrait prints can be hung symmetrically above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table to establish visual balance. They also complement gallery walls when paired with modern abstract art or minimalist black-and-white photography.

Paper prints must be displayed away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and foxing. Frame prints using acid-free mounting materials and UV-protective glass to protect the paper fibre over time.
