Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century French armchairs, often created in the Louis XV revival style, typically feature curved wooden frames, open armrests, serpentine crest rails, and cabriole legs. These pieces reflect historic French cabinetmaking traditions, adapting classic 18th-century silhouettes for early 1900s interiors.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or beech for structural durability and detailed carving. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural horsehair padding, webbed bases, and decorative gimp trimming applied around woven fabrics.

Authentic examples often show hand-carved frame detailing, traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and subtle asymmetrical wear on the wooden armrests and legs. Examining the underside reveals hand-stitched webbing or wooden pegged construction standard for European manufacturing of that era.

A pair of carved armchairs can flank a console table in an entryway or be positioned opposite a minimalist sofa to create balance. Mixing the carved timber frame and patterned textile with contemporary architectural elements adds visual texture to neutral spaces.

Frame maintenance involves applying natural beeswax polish with a soft cloth to nourish the wood while avoiding silicone cleaners. Upholstered sections require gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate spot cleaning of any spillages using fabric-safe solutions.
