## About the Artist
Johann Emil Rudolf Herrmann, better known as Hans Herrmann, studied at the Prussian Academy of Arts under Otto Knille, Karl Gussow, and Christian Wilberg before continuing his landscape studies with Eugen Dücker at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf between 1879 and 1882.
His artistic development was enriched through regular study trips to France, Italy, and the Netherlands, where he attended George Hitchcock''s renowned Art Summer School. He es
...tablished his own studio in 1883 and returned to Holland almost every year from 1886 onwards, producing many of the scenes for which he is best known.
Alongside Max Liebermann and Walter Leistikow, Herrmann was a founding member of the progressive artists'' group *Vereinigung der XI*, which challenged the conservative academic traditions of the period. He exhibited extensively throughout Germany, including at the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung in Berlin and the Glaspalast in Munich, and also illustrated the popular magazine *Die Gartenlaube* between 1886 and 1890.
