Description

Pair of late C19th / early C20th verdigris patinated copper neo-classical design coach-house style wall lanterns.

The tapering glazed bodies with a hinged door to the front below shaped ‘pagoda’ tops with circular ‘vents’ and turned classical-style finials to the corners. The interiors with oil-burner style fitments , now having been converted and fitted for electricity .

Of good large scale and proportions with a consistent aged verdigris patination . No damage, splits or repairs. In need of re-wiring which can be completed to client’s specification.

A decorative and functional pair of wall-mounting lanterns of restrained design.

Coach house lanterns originated during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to illuminate carriage houses, stable yards, and grand entrances. Designed with tapered glass panels and top ventilation chimneys, they provided weather-resistant illumination for horse-drawn transport enclosures.
