Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Menu and place card holders gained popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras as formal dining etiquette required structured seating arrangements and displayed dinner menus. These small silver table appointments were designed to hold individual name cards or printed daily menus at formal gatherings.

Silversmiths constructed these items from solid sterling silver, featuring cast and chased details topped with sculpted motifs such as game birds or animals. Engine-turned metal pedestals were coated with translucent vitreous enamel using the guilloche technique to create vibrant patterns prior to hallmarking.

Authentic Edwardian silver pieces carry full British hallmarks, including a makers mark, town mark, lion passant denoting sterling silver, and a date letter corresponding to 19011910. High-quality examples exhibit crisp casting, smooth wire clips, and intact enamel work without chips or fractures.

Position antique place card holders along dining settings to hold handwritten name cards, or utilise them on a sideboard to label dishes for a buffet presentation. They also function well on a desk or mantelpiece to display small art prints or photographs.

Dust silver and enamel objects gently using a soft microfibre cloth, applying a dedicated silver polishing cloth to metal areas when tarnish appears. Never submerge enamel pieces in liquid cleaners or chemical dips, as moisture can damage the enamel backing and internal components.
