A magnificent Chamberlain Worcester vase and cover, circa 1815-20. Of ovoid form, the fluted shoulder applied with impressive gilt wyvern handles, richly decorated with gilt-edged panels of exotic ‘fancy’ birds in the manner of George Davis, on grassy banks, a profusion of smaller panels with more colourful birds and insects, reserved on a deep blue mazarine ground, 53cm high, red script mark ‘Chamberlains Worcester’ to cover.This shape was selected for the important vase and cover painted by Humphrey Chamberlain Junior with a portrait of Princess Charlotte, formerly in the Twinight Collection and sold by Bonhams on 29 September 2021, lot 47.
