A charming japanned demi-lune console table with finely executed Chinoiserie decoration throughout. The shaped top is beautifully hand-painted in gilt with oriental-inspired scenes incorporating pagodas, birds, butterflies and scrolling foliage, all set against a rich deep green ground and enclosed within a delicate gilt border.
The serpentine frieze is decorated with continuous gilt foliate ornament and divided by applied classical paterae, with rope-twist mouldings framing the decoration above and below. The table stands on six elegant turned and fluted legs, highlighted with gilt detailing, providing both refinement and excellent stability.
Retaining its original japanned and gilt finish, the table has acquired a pleasing patina with gentle age-related wear, enhancing its decorative appeal.
