Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century Swedish painted furniture is recognised for its pale colour palettes, light-reflecting finishes, and functional pine construction. Influenced by Gustavian and neoclassical design, rural craftsmen created simplified interpretations using local softwoods and soft milk paints or pigments to brighten dark northern interiors during winter months.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid pine or spruce, which were readily available native softwoods. The exteriors were finished with layered mineral or oil-based paints, often highlighted with contrasting trim, and fitted with brass, iron, or wooden drawer hardware.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-planed timber backboards, and natural wear patterns where paint has thinned around handles and edges over time. Look for layered paint history and period-correct hardware fittings rather than uniform modern distressing.

A painted Swedish chest serves as a focal piece in contemporary bedrooms, entryways, or living rooms. Designers often pair the muted paint tones with warm linen textiles, modern art, or simple ceramic accessories to create visual contrast between traditional structure and modern minimalism.

Clean painted antique pine by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid harsh chemical sprays, solvents, or saturated cloths, which can lift historic paint layers; maintain stable humidity levels to prevent timber expansion and shrinkage.
