19th Century Wardrobe Compactum With Original Scumble Faux Oak Paintwork
 
The wardrobe dismantles easily & is constructed in six parts: two upright boxes, each containing two large drawers, a cornice & a plinth. The two boxes locate onto the plinth & are held together by the cornice & additional screws. This makes it possible to take the wardrobe up a normal sized staircase without difficulty.
 
This is now a rare piece of furniture, prized by interior designers as not many have survived without being stripped. The wardrobe is made using large panels of yellow pine. Scumbling is a decorative paint technique & typically refers to the creation of a faux wood grain finish to imitate timbers such as mahogany or oak.
 
The interior consists of two full length hanging sections fitted with brass hanging rails. Each section has two large drawers with gilded swan neck handles. The drawers run beautifully smooth. The wardrobe comes with working locks & keys & has been cleaned throughout ...
