Vintage 9ct Gold Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst and Garnet Ring

Later than 1960
Description

Make a bold statement with this distinctive vintage 9ct yellow gold ring, crafted in an eye catching Brutalist inspired design. Hallmarked in Edinburgh in 1990 and bearing the maker's mark of Charles Lucas & Sons (CL&S), this unusual piece showcases an abstract openwork arrangement set with four marquise-cut gemstones.

The textured gold design is accented with a rich emerald, sapphire, amethyst and garnet, creating a striking contrast of colour against the warm yellow gold. Its sculptural, organic styling makes it a wonderful example of late 20th-century British jewellery with a retro aesthetic.

Whether worn as a statement ring or added to a vintage jewellery collection, this is a unique and conversation starting piece.

We have cleaned and polished this ring in our workshop. It is in excellent condition, ready to be once again loved and cherished.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-Century multi-gemstone rings frequently feature textured yellow gold mountings paired with contrasting gemstone combinations. Openwork metalwork, marquise cuts, and botanical foliage motifs were widespread design signatures during the post-war era.

These rings are typically constructed from 9ct or 18ct yellow gold and feature claw-set natural gemstones, including emeralds, sapphires, amethysts, and garnets arranged in multi-stone clusters.

Authenticity can be verified by checking for official UK hallmarks or fineness stamps inside the band, such as 375 for 9ct gold, along with examining the casting quality and stone settings under magnification.

This ring can be worn as a standalone statement piece on the index or middle finger, or displayed in a luxury velvet ring dish on a bedroom dressing table or vanity tray.

Clean gently using lukewarm water, mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled brush around the settings. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and extreme temperature shifts to protect natural gemstones.
