Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Egyptian Revival furniture is a decorative arts style that incorporates motifs, imagery, and architectural forms from ancient Egypt, including sphinxes, pharaohs, lotus flowers, and obelisks. The style gained widespread popularity in Western Europe and North America during the 19th century following Napoleons Egyptian Campaign and subsequent archaeological discoveries.

19th-century bookcases were predominantly constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, often featuring decorative wood veneers like flame mahogany or burr walnut. Decorative embellishments frequently included cast brass or bronze mounts, marble tops, and glass panelled doors.

Authentic 19th-century pieces typically exhibit hand-carved detailing, natural age patina, and hand-cast brass or bronze mounts. Construction markers such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original saw marks on secondary wood backings, and authentic surface wear near base plinths further indicate period origin.

A dark mahogany Egyptian Revival bookcase creates a focal point when placed against neutral or rich jewel-toned walls. It can be styled with curated literature, ceramic vessels, and brass decorative objects to highlight the metallic mounts and classical symmetry.

Clean mahogany surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually to preserve the wood finish. Avoid aggressive chemical polish on aged brass mounts, as natural patination and oxidisation contribute to historical authenticity.
