Description

Superb Worcester porcelain chestnut basket of oval shape with pierced lattice form walls, grooved on the outside, with scalloped rim and foot, and green enamelled rope twist handles terminating in large finely modelled decorative stems, leaves, flowers and buds applied over the basket walls. Puce painted simple daisy form flowers are applied at each external intersection. Inside is decorated in polychrome enamels with a large central spray of garden flowers in green, puce, purple, orange and yellow and pretty individual flower sprig are dotted around the walls. Unmarked, c.1770.

It measures 20.5 cm (8") long, 19cm (7 5/8") wide and 10cm (3 7/8") high. 

Condition is excellent: there has just been the professional stabilisation of a tight hairline crack to the side to one of the handles. It is very difficult to see, please view the last photo. No other damage, repair or restoration bar a couple of very minor chips to some of the petals applied at the handle terminals. Minimal handling wear, just a couple of minor losses to the gilding on the rim. A really lovely example.
