Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Salt cellars are small open vessels designed to hold table salt, produced widely prior to the addition of anti-caking agents in salt during the twentieth century. Silver examples were often created as decorative accessories for formal dining tables.

Sodium chloride reacts chemically with silver, causing rapid corrosion and tarnish. Removable glass liners, particularly in cobalt blue, were added to protect the metal work while providing visual contrast against the silver.

Authentic British sterling silver cellars from the Edwardian era feature official hallmark stamps including the lion passant mark, an assay town mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. Pieces from 1901 to 1910 frequently incorporate delicate neoclassical Pierced work and light scrolling motifs.

These small vessels can be displayed on sideboards or dining tables as functional salt dips during formal meals, or repurposed as small containers for delicate jewellery on bedside tables and dressing areas.

Wash the glass liners separately in warm soapy water using a soft cloth. The silver mounts should be wiped gently with a dedicated silver polishing cloth, taking care not to allow chemical polishes to collect in intricate filigree or pierced details.
