Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Vesta cases were introduced in the mid-nineteenth century following the invention of friction matches, known as vestas. Designed to keep matches dry and readily accessible, desktop and pocket versions were produced in vast numbers, often featuring humorous, naturalistic, or animal-shaped novelty designs.

Victorian match safes were predominantly crafted from cast metals such as brass, bronze, sterling silver, and nickel plate. Many animal-form designs incorporated inset glass eyes or enamelled detailing to enhance the realistic quality of the casting.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display heavy casting, hand-finished chasing, and precise hinge mechanisms. Look for natural surface oxidisation, age-consistent wear around high points, and internal match-striking surfaces carved directly into the base or rim.

A cast brass tabletop piece functions as a decorative paperweight or accent item when displayed on an office desk, mantelpiece, or styled atop a stack of books on a bookshelf alongside contemporary stationery and lighting.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to clean the surface. Avoid abrasive polishes or chemical cleansers, as these can strip away the historical patina and discolour glass eye insets or delicate recessed details.
