Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late 19th century, prioritising functional form, visible joinery, and natural wood grain over excessive ornamentation. Dining chairs from this era frequently feature straight lines, vertical slats, cut-out motifs, and solid oak construction.

Craftsmen typically utilised solid native hardwoods, predominantly quarter-sawn oak, assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joints. Seats were commonly upholstered in woven fabrics, leather, or fitted with drop-in rush pads.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished woodwork, flat surfaces showcasing prominent grain patterns, and structural details like exposed pegs or dowels. Motifs such as stylised heart or spade cutouts on the splats are also characteristic of this period.

Timber chairs from this movement integrate smoothly with clean-lined oak dining tables or contrasting contemporary surfaces. Reupholstering the seats in modern neutral fabrics allows the historic woodwork to complement updated interior schemes.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain to maintain moisture and wipe with a dry lint-free cloth. Vacuum upholstery regularly and address spills immediately with gentle fabric cleaners to prevent staining.
