The piece is divided into two sections by a moulded waist. The upper chest features a moulded cornice above two short drawers and three long, graduating drawers, all flanked by canted corners that lend subtle architectural refinement. The lower section incorporates a secretaire drawer above two deep, oak-lined drawers and stands on its original shaped bracket feet.

All drawers retain their original finely cast brass handles and escutcheons, reinforcing both authenticity and period integrity. The piece separates into two sections for ease of transport and placement, as intended in its original design. Generous in scale yet well balanced, this tallboy offers excellent storage while maintaining the restrained elegance that defines Georgian furniture.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a two-part wooden storage cabinet featuring an upper chest of drawers fitted atop a slightly wider lower chest base. Originating in the eighteenth century, these pieces maximised vertical storage space while showcasing elegant English cabinetmaking proportions.

Eighteenth-century examples were typically constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or oak, utilising hand-cut dovetail joints and pine secondary timbers. Hardware generally featured cast brass handles with pierced backplates alongside bracket feet.

Authentic George III pieces feature hand-sawn secondary drawer linings, hand-planed surfaces, and hand-cut dovetails. Examining the waist moulding, drawer dividers, and natural oxidisation on drawer bottoms helps confirm original eighteenth-century manufacture.

Position the piece against a focal wall in a bedroom, hall, or living room to anchor the architecture of the space. Complement the tall silhouette by balancing it with contemporary artwork or minimalist lighting.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent paint flaking and timber movement. Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical polishes on the painted surface.
